How to make a Crash Mat. Perfect for traveling - just bring cover and use extra hotel pillows, or your friends pillows.
Step 1: Take a Twin size duvet and cut in ½ lengthwise: Lay it flat on the floor. Measure 27" from one edge. Cut through the top layer only. Turn the Duvet over. Repeat on opposite side. You should have two Pieces of Duvet, where one edge hangs over the other, like the first photo. You’ll have to unpick or cut through the threads on one end where the duvet is sewn closed to separate the pieces.
Step 2: Hem your raw edges. Sew open edge closed.
Step 3: Measure your duvet & divide by 4. Mine measures just over 84". So I’m going to use 21" as my number. Fold down the top flap. Measure over 21" & make a line with a wax crayon or tailors chalk. Pin along this line. Repeat 3 more times. It’s OK if your lines aren’t perfectly straight. Make sure to pin the top flap down.
Step 4: Sew down all four lines.
Step 5: Open the flap and shove pillows in there.
Step 6: Throw down on floor to crash position.
Crash options shown: The Gamer, The TV watcher. The Sleeper.
This makes one single child/teen sized crash mat. Will do testing for a grown adult size this winter.
